How & Why To Do It?

An area that sets Simons Rodkin Solicitors LLP apart from other Entertainment Specialist Law Practice’s is we are able to offer our potential clients the facility to register with UK collection societies such as The Performing Rights Society (PRS) for Broadcasting and The Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) for MP3, Downloads, Streaming, CD and good old fashioned Vinyl sales. The income generated by such societies is the core income when not earning from performance related events. Many composers can make an excellent income which can support them in other areas of their career by writing music specifically for production music, sometimes referred as ‘Library’ music.
It is not uncommon for composers to be unaware of this extra source of income because they have focused on having their ‘works’ included on a television show, commercial or even used in a motion picture and may well have received a payment from the production company and therefore believe this is all they are entitled to receive.
We offer our clients the opportunity for us to make the necessary registrations on our composers behalf and prior to this we will have agreed a ‘commission’ rate for such registrations depending on the amount of research such registrations are going to take us and the potential income available to be collected. All this can be discussed and agreed in our initial consultations with any potential clients.
